Motown? What is the "Motown" of which you speak?

I wanted to post this while the game was going on, but Blogger was Bloggered. Anyway, they had Bob Seger sing the National Anthem at the first game of the World Series, because when I think music and Detroit, I think of Bob Seger.

The Elephant in the room

Speedy Oakley may get big shot

This is a very interesting story to me. Why? Because it makes such a big point of Will Oakley being fast; he's a wide receiver, he's supposed to be fast. What it doesn't mention is why they are making a point of him being fast. Will Oakley is white, and white wide receivers are not supposed to be fast.

No, a racist NASCAR analyst!

Speed Channel suspends analyst Dunlap for on-air remarks about Hispanics - USATODAY.com

Apparently, he made mock of a claim that Latinos are ten percent of the NASCAR audience. I don't buy that either, but he said something else in the process. USA Today won't say what and actually pretends that they don't know.

He's a monster!

King calls Tyson a social programs advocate

Dear God, he probably doesn't even want to execute people for smoking pot!

John Tyson: Wants to stop crime.
"Troy King": Wants to punish criminals.

Which do you prefer? If you prefer punishment to prevention, I submit that you're an idiot.

You suck, Larry

Langford plan rejected

Even Shelia Smoot voted against him. For one thing, his plan was sort of illegal.

Go get 'em

Federal judge rules suit against U.S. Steel state issue

So, the situation: US Steel is having its workers load flatbed trucks with steel coils so that the holes in the coils face outward. The Bessemer DA says that this is dangerous and why USS coils keep falling off of trucks and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages and is suing them in Bessmer Division circuit court.

US Steel doesn't want anything to do with state court; in fact, they're disgusted that their former serfs are rebelling and want the case removed to Federal court where they'll get a friendlier hearing. The Federal judge says no dice, you have to go to Bessemer. Bummer for them.

Getting on everyone's nerves

Langford OKs poll on scholarships

I assume that this is different from the phone calls that I talked about yesterday. Also, it's clearly meant to pressure the other commissioners. Langford's own district wasn't surveyed.

Again, I see a problem

UPDATE: Upchurch to have season-ending surgery | TideSports.com

University of Alabama running back Roy Upchurch will undergo season-ending knee surgery on his right ankle, coach Mike Shula said Monday.
That's some surgery. But I taunt the Tuscaloosa News, they can't help it.

Larry Langford, spammer

Langford wields e-mails in bond quest

In a last-ditch attempt to garner support for his scholarship plan, Jefferson County Commission President Larry Langford said he had 5,000 e-mails sent to educators and residents asking them to lobby the commission to support the plan, he said.

An automated phone poll also went to homes asking residents to push buttons to give their opinions on a proposed county bond refinancing that could pay for the college scholarships.

Because if there's anything that's more likely to get people on your side than unsolicited email, it's calling them at home and asking them to work through a phone maze.

There's something wrong with this sentence...

Five Mile Creek plan on path to completion
The Five Mile Creek Greenway, which began as an idea to make green space out of an abandoned mobile home park in Tarrant, is on its way to becoming a path that stretches the length of the 28-mile creek.
Either that creek is misnamed, or... Well, I don't have an or here.
