I wish I got a 62% pay raise
Legislators OK 62% pay boost
Heck, I'd settle for a 6.2% pay raise. Gosh, that's a lot. They go from a little over $30K to almost $50K, which is pretty good for a part-time job. And they threw in automatic raises adjusted to inflation. Riley says he'll veto but acknowledges they'll just override it.

I dunno. Sometimes I think it's a good thing to have a well paid legislature as it might discourage some of them from taking bribes or cutting shady business deals. Then I realize no matter how much they get paid, they'll probably still do the same.
It also encourages more people to run, e. nonee moose. However, for a part-time, part-year legislature, 50K is pretty steep. Since there are 240 legislators, that's $12,000,000 a year in labor. I'm not sure they labor enough to justify that wage.
Woops... there are about 140 legislators, which means $7,000,000. Still, I know a few Mexicans in Hoover who can do a better job for cheaper.
