From the Ichthypundit

JS Online: Exotic virus may have killed 10 tons of carp in lake

It's an endemic European disease, only known once before in the US (with imported koi). If it were just carp, I don't think anyone would mind very much, but

Staggs said it is uncertain what other fish might be at risk. Carp are members of the minnow family, which means other minnow species may be susceptible to the disease.

Northern pike also may be at risk, he said.

Carp are relatives of minnow? You learn something new every day. So the giant fish that are leaping into boats in Mississippi are cousins of bait fish. Maybe it's an attempt to free their relatives.
