Return to the Sucking Vortex

The World Wide Rant's Andy writes of Montgomery County investigating an occupational tax of 1.5% on all salaries. Actually, Jefferson County (where Birmingham is located) has had one for years, though it's only 1%. It is pretty loathsome. Jefferson attempts to justify it because so many Birmingham workers don't live in the county but commute from Shelby or Walker (or increasingly, Tuscaloosa or Bibb) counties. The real problem is at the state level, though. The tax system in this state is so screwed up that local officials don't see any problem with screwing with it more. If Andy does want to do some consulting, how about starting on Goat Hill and seeing if they'll fix the income tax structure?
